Roofbuddy and Social Media Networking

👷‍♂️ 👷‍♀️ Roofbuddy and Social Media Networking 💻

Facebook (in particular) has been fairly pivotal in connecting many people in construction.

Smaller focused groups may migrate onto WhatsApp groups but by-in-large, my experience has seen a mushroomed set of active groups:

Roofers
Subdivision
Civil contractors
Painters

And so on….

The main group I assist in administering is Subdivision NZ with 15,600 members.

Through this networking, we connected up ideas, answer questions and very recently we discovered common complaints regarding a roofing marketing ‘platform’ called RoofBuddy.

This platform connected customers with roofers BUT it claimed to make the process easy and prevent cowboys — its ‘VALUE-ADD’ seems to have been quality assurance at a good price.

To me, it has failed miserably, the platform seems to have EXTRACTED money at the cost of the customer to feed a marketing group focused on re-roofing.

Construction is a human based activity, it is not hands-off. Great project managers and construction managers, do exactly that, they MANAGE and work with PEOPLE to get the best outcome meeting financial, safety and compliance needs. It thrives on trust and highly skilled trades.

They do not sit at the end of the phone using heavy marketing that just adds a layer of cost that devalues highly skilled trades.

When the underpinning structures and processes fail or are automated with no value add, the trades group will STAND UP STRONG and push the message out – they are proud of their work and they care about their customers.

Thanks to main stream media for picking up the story and helping it reach ‘mums & dads’ we may prevent further harm. As I understand, the messaging is not finished yet.

Note: I tried my best to prevent the LBP getting out to extend his ‘imperfect’ inspections, I tried TWICE… I shall try ‘THRICE’… maybe he will do the right thing and step back?

I think there are now three news articles and one YouTube feature…

Kirsty Merriman
For years I would plan houses, travel widely and observe communities. I also had the privilege of working for New Zealand's largest dairy company in both New Zealand and Malaysia. All the while supported by my husband and young daughter. After a while, our roles swapped and we moved to the Arabian Gulf. Meanwhile my passion for property and communities continued to simmer.

Along came COVID and had no choice but to pivot... in the words of Robert Frost, I looked for and "found the road less travelled by" and decided that maybe I could "make [a] the difference".

I look for to find insights and built a few of the houses that we need. This means a saleable house and a profitable and sustainable business.
