📊 There’s inflation and then there is INFLATION: Auckland’s 25% and 138%
Kieran Trass linked me to a recent post about house cost increases. I started thinking about it and how to express the extreme infrastructure costs Auckland housing is facing and the contrasting signals I am seeing.
Here is a short graphic to sting your eyes.
Between 2018 and 2024, we saw general inflation of roughly 25% and 30% for house prices.
Not be outdone, house construction costs came in swinging at a 50% increase.
Watercare must have felt left out so came in with a 100% increase.

Auckland Council are proposing a MEDIAN Auckland increase which leads to DC inflation of 138%.
Yes that is right folks, development contributions win that one…. but don’t worry, if you intend to build in the inner north west, you will win hands down…
