Vector’s Unfair Contracts: story from Business Desk

⚡ 👀 Sharing This Follow-Up on Vector’s Contracts – They Just Keep Going

I’ve been following this story with my developer peers. Many of us signed exactly these types of contracts with Vector.

Vector has apparently kept using the same dodgy contract terms even AFTER Commerce Commission told them to stop.

Three further agreements.

Vector’s response? “If an error has been made while transitioning to updated terms, we apologise.”

An error? How did it get through the system?

You don’t accidentally keep using contracts your regulator has told you are unfair – especially when you’ve agreed to change them.

These weren’t small details either:

🖇️ Contracting customers out of Fair Trading Act protections
🖇️ No liability for Vector’s delays
🖇️ Full payment upfront with no guaranteed start dates

Vector also says these terms are “relatively common across the industry”.

Everyone else is doing it so it must be okay?

Good on those pushing back and BusinessDesk for staying on this story.

All the while supported by my husband and young daughter. After a while, our roles swapped and we moved to the Arabian Gulf. Meanwhile my passion for property and communities continued to simmer.

Along came COVID and had no choice but to pivot... in the words of Robert Frost, I looked for and "found the road less travelled by" and decided that maybe I could "make [a] the difference".

I look for to find insights and built a few of the houses that we need. This means a saleable house and a profitable and sustainable business.
