Aucklanders are not the Eftpos machine of Auckland Council. We must demonstrate that we are changing the way we do things to operate as efficiently as possible

Words from Deputy Mayor Desley Simpson written in the NZ Herald yesterday. Yes, she ‘gets it’.

Moreover, it is good to hear these sound bites from the council.

Not the same can be said coming from Watercare about the blow-out of the Huia Dam: $420 million in 2018 to $1.12 billion now. Mr Chambers said: “it is realistic and represents good value for Aucklander’s”. Hmmm…. it blew out Sir! Answer that. [NZ Herald, 26 March, Bernard Orsman]

Did you know that it is the small affordable homes that do a lot of heavy lifting for Watercare’s capital costs? A two bedroom home pays the same amount as a large 6 bedroom home. Wasting it, not forecasting well is an insult to everyone working hard and MOSTLY those who are JUST able to get on the housing ladder — think about them!

Auckland Council is in charge of figuring out how much money is needed, sharing the costs, and delivery of our infrastructure.

Aucklander’s have to TRUST their INTEGRITY.

We have to TRUST our elected representatives .

These representatives have oversight of the employees.

Thank-you, Deputy Mayor, for looking into the spending focusing on three projects

And THANK-YOU for ‘getting it’.

We want a better Auckland and we need to procure well and spend well with a future vision to get there.

For years I would plan houses, travel widely and observe communities. I also had the privilege of working for New Zealand's largest dairy company in both New Zealand and Malaysia. All the while supported by my husband and young daughter. After a while, our roles swapped and we moved to the Arabian Gulf. Meanwhile my passion for property and communities continued to simmer.

Along came COVID and had no choice but to pivot... in the words of Robert Frost, I looked for and "found the road less travelled by" and decided that maybe I could "make [a] the difference".

I look for to find insights and built a few of the houses that we need. This means a saleable house and a profitable and sustainable business.
